HOLY LAND COLLECTION
On Good Friday, during the 1:00 p.m. Liturgy, a collection will be taken for the
shrines in the Holy Land. The Holy Land is a special home across the sea, where
Christ was born, lived, preached, worked His miracles and died. Today, the Holy
Land is in need. Most Christians who live near and care for the holy places in
Jerusalem and Palestine are very poor or foreign missionaries in a foreign land.
For over 800 years, the Franciscan Fathers have been charged with the care of
the Holy Places. Our Good Friday collection helps support their ministry.
HOLY SATURDAY VIGIL MASS
The RCIA team invites everyone to attend the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 11,
at 8:00 p.m., to support our RCIA candidates – Christopher Decker, Zachary Fox,
Matthew Hofmeister, and Nick Magnini – as they become fully initiated in the
Roman Catholic faith. The Easter Vigil will begin in a darkened Church with the
lighting of fire and the Pascal Candle. As the procession moves into the Church,
each person in attendance will light a candle signifying Christ entering the
Church. Scripture readings will be proclaimed and Baptismal vows will be
renewed. Zachary will receive Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Christopher
and Matthew will receive Eucharist and Confirmation and Nick will make a
Profession of Faith. Immediately following Mass, a reception will be held in the
Parish Library for everyone so that they can congratulate our RCIA neophytes.
Please join us at this very special event.

LEGISLATION UNFAIRLY TARGETS CHURCH
The NYS Legislature is considering a bill that would allow individuals to file
civil lawsuits claiming abuse at any time in the past. The bill does not apply
evenly to all victims and all institutions. It is selectively targeted at the
Catholic Church and other private organizations.
Significantly, it would not apply to public schools or other public entities.
The proposals would rescind the statute of limitations on abuse-related lawsuits
against private organizations for one year, rejecting a legal doctrine respected
by generations of judges and legislatures that civil claims should be brought in
a timely fashion to ensure a fair and just resolution based on the facts.
The NYS Catholic Conference, the Diocese of Buffalo and other religious
organizations have urged the Legislature to adopt alternative legislation that
treats all victims and institutions fairly and evenly. The unfair legislation,
if enacted, could imperil all of the Church’s missions and ministries in NYS.
For more information please visit www.protectnychildren.com and then please
contact your state legislators about this important issue.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO CARE FOR GOD’S CREATION:
Our Environment … and why do Catholics care?
A brief but riveting presentation will be sponsored by the Social Justice
Ministry on Thursday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel Meeting Room. The
short film “Climate Change: Our Faith Response” funded by the U.S. Conference of
Catholic Bishops will be shown. A portion of the film “Kilowatt Ours”,
discussing the climate change challenge, and what we as individuals and
communities can do will also be presented. Handouts will be available and ideas
for the action discussed.
DID YOUR LENTEN SACRIFICE HELP THE
ENVIRONMENT?
During Holy Week, be aware of what stirred most in you this Lent, reflect on how
Jesus calls his community to self-giving love, and pray for the grace to be open
to the New Life God works in us. The U.S. Bishops, through their office of
Catholic Coalition on Climate Change, are asking each Catholic to make a
Catholic Climate Covenant which is the St. Francis pledge to Care for Creation
and the Poor. The covenant is a commitment to care for God’s creation and to
stand with the unborn and the poor and vulnerable people in our nation and
around the world. Go to www.catholicsandclimatechange.org for more information
or contact Sr. Sharon Goodremote, FSSJ at Catholic Charities at 853-4424, ext.
3006.
SUPPORT CONSCIENCE PROTECTION – TAKE ACTION
NOW:
The Catholic community must speak out to protect Catholic doctors, nurses and
hospitals. The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is inviting
public comment on a proposal to rescind an important December 2008 federal
regulation that protects the conscience rights of health care providers. Help
protect the rights of our Catholic health care professionals and institutions
especially those at risk of being discriminated against because of their moral
or religious objection to abortion. Please visit www.usccb.org/conscienceprotection
to access links to make a comment and to find out more information. Your
Catholic Voice is needed now. Comments must be posted by April 9.
CATHOLICS RETURNING HOME
If you are a Catholic who has been away from the Church or attends infrequently,
this invitation is for you. “Catholic Returning Home” is a compassionate
ministry for helping those who have been away, renew their relationship wit the
Church. It is an opportunity for having their questions addressed, for learning
more about the Church, and feeling at home once more. No matter how long you’ve
been away, whatever the reason, wherever you’re from, join us on Thursday, April
16, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s Parish Center, 6919 Transit Road,
Swormville. Come and see; “no strings attached”. For more info, call Carol at
741-8490 or Tom at 689-7448.
END OF YEAR FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
End of Year Financial Statements are available by sending a note to the Rectory
Office, you can place it in the collection basket, or call us at 839-1430.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES
As we reach the culmination of Appeal Week 2009, ask yourself: Is there someone
you know who needs help? Or do you and your family need help? Catholic Charities
has 53 locations throughout WNY where we provide basic emergency services (food,
prescription assistance, housing or heating assistance) and /or counseling for a
number of problems facing individuals, couples, children and families. If you
are among the luckiest in our community and are in a position to give help,
please give as generously as you can to Appeal 2009
The goal this year is $11,000,000. As of Tuesday, March 31, 63% has been
reached, and our parish has donated $174,821.
You are asked to look into your heart and give as much as you can. Please
indicate the amount of your donation on the card you received in the mail, and
enclose it with the check, cash or pledge and return it in next week’s
collection, to the Rectory, or in the mail.
Your support of this year’s Appeal is vital. Please consider increasing your
donation this year, by pledging a larger amount, and making payments in several
installments. A gift of $100 is less than $2 per week. Try to join the Large
Gift donor group by giving a minimum of $250. This is what helps make our parish
go over the top every year. Let us show Msgr. Joe Sicari (Director of Catholic
Charities, who assists at CTK) our support.
If you are employed by a firm that “matches gifts” to charitable institutions,
secure a form from your personnel office and forward the completed form to
Catholic Charities Appeal Office. Your contribution is used to bring strength
and stability to the community. Please give generously.
Whoever, Whenever. Wherever. We’re always there. Please be there too. Please
give selflessly to Appeal 2009. Find out more at www.ccwny.org or call 856-4494.
St. Martin de Porres, Pray for us!
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
The St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room in downtown Buffalo is the largest customer
of the WNY Food Bank, and we are currently providing approximately 600 meals per
day to our local community. In addition, we collect food from throughout the
region to stock the Dining Room. CTK parish has been very generous especially at
the holidays in donating food. The basket for collecting food is in the
vestibule of the Upper Church. Thank you.

HEALING MYSTERIES
Some people have inquired about the healing mysteries that were mentioned in Fr.
David Bellittiere's talk. They were taken from a pamphlet The Healing Mysteries
- A Rosary for the Sick by Joanne Turpin. Unfortunately the pamphlet is out of
print. The First Mystery is the healing of the crippled man at the pool of
Bethesda (John 5:1-9). The Second Mystery is the healing of the woman with an
infirmity of the spirit (Luke 13:10-13). The Third Mystery is the healing of the
paralytic at Capernaum (Mark 2:1-12). The Fourth Mystery is the healing of the
woman suffering from hemorrhage (Mark 5:25-34). The Fifth Mystery is the healing
of the blind man at Jericho (Mark 10:46-52).
THE PARISH ROSARY CHAIN
The Parish Rosary Chain is made up of a group of parishioners who pray daily, a
decade of the rosary for special requested intentions. If you have an intention
for the Rosary Chain, or you would like to become part of the Rosary Chain
Ministry, call Irene Wingerter at 632-0646. The Rosary Chain is ideal for those
who wish to keep their intentions private.
LEGISLATION UNFAIRLY TARGETS
CHURCH
The NYS Legislature is considering a bill that would allow individuals to file
civil lawsuits claiming abuse at any time in the past. The bill does not apply
evenly to all victims and all institutions. It is selectively targeted at the
Catholic Church and other private organizations. Significantly, it would not
apply to public schools or other public entities. The proposals would rescind
the statute of limitations on abuse-related lawsuits against private
organizations for one year, rejecting a legal doctrine respected by generations
of judges and legislatures that civil claims should be brought in a timely
fashion to ensure a fair and just resolution based on the facts. The NYS
Catholic Conference, the Diocese of Buffalo and other religious organizations
have urged the Legislature to adopt alternative legislation that treats all
victims and institutions fairly and evenly. The unfair legislation, if enacted,
could imperil all of the Church’s missions and ministries in NYS. For more
information please visit www.protectnychildren.com and then please contact your
state legislators about this important issue.
The

communities can do will also be presented. Handouts will be available and ideas
for the action discussed. Refreshments will be served. Enter through the door at
the arch between the school and church. All are welcome!

ministry for helping those who have been away, renew their relationship wit the

Maybe you came to Mass for Easter Sunday, but you’re not really a regular. Maybe
you feel separated from the Church because of divorce, doubts, painful memories
anger, or other reasons. Maybe something in your soul keeps tugging at you to

you should stop by St. Benedict’s on Thursday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. for Come and
See. It’s an evening of prayer and information. Fr. Art Smith will use music and
spiritual insights to help us discover how to find new life after a divorce, the

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS APPEAL collection will be held next weekend. The shortage
of priests is a growing problem in the U.S. If is further complicated by the
lack of funding in home mission dioceses, where parishes often struggle with
poverty among parishioners, difficult or isolated terrain, religious hostility
and other circumstances that challenge the practice of faith. We are called to
help our fellow Catholics who want to practice their faith right here at home.
Your help is essential to the success of this collection.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES
Ask yourself: Is there someone you know who needs help? Or do you and your
family need help? Catholic Charities has 53 locations throughout WNY where we
provide basic emergency services (food, prescription assistance, housing or
heating assistance) and /or counseling for a number of problems facing
individuals, couples, children and families. If you are among the luckiest in
our community and are in a position to give help, please give as generously as
you can to Appeal 2009
The goal this year is $11,000,000. As of Tuesday, April 14, $9,128,748 has been
raised; and our parish has donated $208, 821. Thank you for your generosity.
Please give selflessly to Appeal 2009. Find out more at www.ccwny.org or call
856-4494.

LEGISLATION UNFAIRLY TARGETS CHURCH – The NYS Legislature is considering a bill that would allow individuals to file civil lawsuits claiming abuse at any time in the past. The bill does not apply evenly to all victims and all institutions. It is selectively targeted at the Catholic Church and other private organizations. Significantly, it would not apply to public schools or other public entities. The proposals would rescind the statute of limitations on abuse-related lawsuits against private organizations for one year, rejecting a legal doctrine respected by generations of judges and legislatures that civil claims should be brought in a timely fashion to ensure a fair and just resolution based on the facts. The NYS Catholic Conference, the Diocese of Buffalo and other religious organizations have urged the Legislature to adopt alternative legislation that treats all victims and institutions fairly and evenly. The unfair legislation, if enacted, could imperil all of the Church’s missions and ministries in NYS. For more information please visit www.protectnychildren.com and then please contact your state legislators about this important issue.
CTK PARISHIONERS VOLUNTEER AT THE RESPONSE TO LOVE CENTER – CTK Parish has committed to helping this wonderful center staff their kitchen and thrift shop on the 3rd Monday of each month: April 20, May 18 and June 15, from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. You may opt to arrive at 7:30 a.m. for Mass with other volunteers, the staff and the Felicians who founded the center. ***Also, the RLL Center is looking for nurses to occasionally volunteer to assist clients in completing health history documents. will follow. For details call the Baker Victory Services at 828-9510.

Please give selflessly to Appeal 2009. Find out more at www.ccwny.org or call
856-4494.
