Gospel Reflection from Family Life Dept.: Jesus was enjoying a moment of peace when the crowd “pressed in on Him” end-ing His quiet moment. Just when we think we can enjoy a peaceful moment at home there is a demand for our time and presence. Notice Jesus did not get upset. Finding and enjoying time for self and family is an art worth planning and designing.

ALL CATHOLICS ARE URGED
TO MAKE THEIR VOICES HEARD
Insist that health care reform protect the lives, dignity, consciences and health of all. Provisions against abortion funding and in favor of conscience protection, affordability, and immigrants‟ access to health care must be part of a fair and just health care reform bill. Unless and until these criteria are met, the final federal health care bill must be opposed. The next couple of weeks are critical. Contact your Representative and Senators today by e-mail, phone or Fax. To send a pre-written, instant e-mail to Congress go to www.usccb.org/action. Call the US Capitol switchboard at: 202-224-3121, or call your Members‟ local offices. Contact info can be found on Members‟ web sites at www.house.gov and www.senate.gov. Please pray for this effort as well. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/healthcare.

There is a recurring problem with parking in the small parking lot, especially during the weekend masses. You are asked NOT TO PARK in the driveway between the Church and the school and NOT TO PARK in the middle of the small parking lot. Please park only in the lined parking spaces. People parking haphazardly, cause others to be blocked in, is a fire hazard, and would prevent emergency vehicles from having access. Please be more considerate of your fellow parishioners.

CARE FOR CREATION
From Earth Talk: Is it bad for the environment to dump clog removers like Drano down the drain? What are some alternatives to such products?
The active ingredient in Drano and other drain cleaners is sodium hydroxide, (caustic soda or lye). It is a man-made chemical used for its corrosive properties. According to the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, the substance is not considered a pollutant, as it separates into relatively harmless component elements once released into water or moist soil.
But sodium hydroxide is an irritant that can burn skin and aggravate nose, throat and respiratory airways, so contact with it is best avoided - so keep it well out of the reach of children.
For those who would rather avoid such chemicals entirely, a plunger or mechanical drain snake can often free up clogs as well or better than sodium hydroxide compounds. One home remedy is to pour a handful of baking soda mixed with a half cup of vinegar down the drain, and follow it quickly with boiling water. Another option is to choose any number of enzymatic biological drain cleaners on the market today. These make use of a natural bacterial and enzyme mixture to open and keep drains clear, and unlike sodium hydroxide they are non-caustic and will not facilitate combustion.
As any plumber will tell you, good maintenance is the best way to prevent clogged drains. Flushing drains weekly with boiling water can help keep them clear. Also, installing small screens atop drains will help keep hair, lint and other clogging elements out of the pipeline in the first place.

Monday, February 15-February 19 : Winter Break
LENTEN REGULATIONS
Abstinence: All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are bound to abstain totally from meat on the following days: Ash Wednesday, all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.
Fasting: All Catholics between their 18th and 59th birthdays are also bound to observe the Law of Fast on the following days: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken on two other occasions in the course of the day.
Easter Duty: After they have been initiated into the Eucharist, all the faithful are bound by the obligation of receiving Com-munion at least once a year. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season, unless for a good reason it is fulfilled at another time during the year. This obligation may be fulfilled between Feb. 21 (First Sunday in Lent) and May 30 (Trinity Sunday).
The Following Should Also be Noted:
1) RECONCILIATION: Catholics are bound by an obligation faithfully to confess serious sins at least once a year (Canon 989)
2) OTHER FRIDAYS OF THE YEAR: Catholics should be reminded that all other Fridays of the year remain as days of penance, in prayerful remembrance of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
3) OBLIGATION: The obligation, which we have as members of the Church, to do penance is a serious one. Furthermore, the obliga-tion to observe, as a whole or “substantially”, the penitential days specified by the Church is a serious one.
4) While no one should hold himself or herself lightly excused, one should not become unduly scrupulous. Failure to observe individual days of penance is less serious than the failure to observe any penitential days at all or a substantial number of such days.
AN INVITATION: In the name of peace, and in union with the Bishops of our country, the faithful of this Diocese are invited to add volun-tary fasting to the practice of penance during the Fridays of the year. Together with works of charity and service toward our neighbors, this practice would become a sign of our commitment to conversion, reconciliation and peace. (The Challenge of Peace, Art. 298)
ASH WEDNESDAY
February 17 is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Season of Lent, and it is a day of fast and abstinence. Ashes will be distributed during the Masses at 8:00 a.m. 7:00 p.m. and the Prayer Service at 12:00 Noon.
DAILY REFLECTIONS FOR LENT
This year, we will have available Lenten booklets with daily scripture, reflection, meditation and prayer. These books are part of the Not by Bread Alone series. They will be available in a basket at the Altar Rail in the Upper and Lower Churches.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL 2010
Appeal Week March 21-28
In order to provide hope, we must have charity - or love. This Valentine’s Day, please open your heart to the senior who struggles to find affordable, livable housing or simply needs a bit of social support or a hot meal to stay in their own home; the family who depends on a bag of gro-ceries each month from a pantry to keep food on the table; or the teen who needs help with his or her education. Who-ever. Wherever. Whenever. Catholic Charities is always there. Please be there too. Give selflessly to the 2010 Appeal. Find out more at www.ccwnyorg or call 218-1400.

AS
WE BEGIN THIS HOLY SEASON OF LENT
… let us join together as a community to pray for out priests. Please use this prayer daily throughout these forty days of Lent in support of their vocation.
PRAYER FOR PRIESTS
You came from among us to be, for us,
one who serves.
We thank you for ministering Christ to us and
helping us minister Christ to each other.
We are grateful for the many gifts you bring to our community:
for drawing us together in worship,
for visiting us in our homes,
for comforting us in sickness,
for showing us compassion,
for blessing our marriage,
for baptizing our children,
for confirming us in our calling,
for supporting us in bereavement,
for helping us to grow in faith,
for encouraging us to take the initiative for helping the whole community realize
God’s presence among us.
For our part, we pray that we may always be attentive to your needs and never take you for granted.
You, like us, need
friendship and love,
welcome and a sense of belonging,
kind words and acts of thoughtfulness.
We pray, also, for the priests who have wounded priesthood.
May we be willing to forgive and may they be open to healing.
Let us support one another during times of crisis.
God our Father, we ask you to bless our priests and confirm them in their calling.
Give them the gifts they need to respond with generosity and a joyful heart.
We offer this prayer for all priests, especially Father John and Monsignor Joe,
Who are our brothers and friends. Amen.

CARE FOR CREATION
Why is bottled water waste a concern? Here are just a few reasons...
FAmericans used 50 billion water bottles in 2006 and sent 38 billion water bottles to landfills, the equiva-lent of 912 million gallons of oil.
FIf laid end to end, that‘s enough bottles to travel from the Earth to the Moon and back 10 times.
FIf placed in a landfill or littered, those bottles could take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade.
FIn 2006, the average American used 167 disposable water bottles, but only recycled about 38
FAmericans used 50 billion plastic water bottles in 2006, However, the U.S.'s recycling rate for plastic is only 23 percent, which means 38 billion water bottles — more than $1 billion worth of plastic — are wasted each year.
