HELP PROTECT MARRIAGE
The NY State Senate may soon vote to redefine marriage. The bishops of NY State
have said that marriage is the fundamental building block of our society. The
state has a compelling legal interest in promoting marriage between men and
women in order to create stable families and provide for the safety, health, and
well-being of children. The state has no such compelling legal interest in
recognizing a relationship between two people of the same sex.
Marriage leads to the creation of families and allows children to be raised in
the same home by both their mother and father. It should be obvious to all that
men and women bring vastly different gifts to their roles as parents, and that
children are best served in the overwhelming number of cases when they are
raised by their mother and father.
Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, bishop of Buffalo, is calling on the state Senate in the
strongest terms to reject the radical social experiment of same-sex marriage and
continue to recognize marriage for what it has always been and always will be –
the union of one man and one woman.
You are encouraged to advocate on this issue by contracting your state senator
and by joining the Catholic Advocacy Network at www.nyscatholicconference.org.

“SLAYING IS INCONSISTENT WITH PRO-LIFE MESSAGE”
The following statement is from the Office of Pro-Life Activities of the Diocese
of Buffalo:
We join the U.S. bishops as we extend sympathies to George Tiller’s family for
his loss of life. George Tiller’s murder is condemned as an act of violence,
like all murder, that is gravely immoral and contrary to the theology,
philosophy and mission of what it means to be pro-life. Our pro-life efforts
have always been and will continue to be non-violent coupled with the belief
that everyone has the right to life; both born and unborn. When promoting a
culture of life, although we maintain that abortion is a violent act against the
life of the unborn human being, we never ever see death as a solution, ever. It
is diametrically opposed to our goal, which is peace in the womb, outside of the
womb and peace in Christ.
THE CATHOLIC COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN (CCC) serves millions of parishioners around
the world and in our community through pod casts, newspapers, television,
satellite radio and more. CCC funds programs that inspire you, help you through
the challenges of life and strengthen your faith. CCC is always there, giving
you access to the Word of God 24 hours a day, whenever you may need it. Your
generosity will make a powerful impact!

THE MAY APPEAL
This past week, we sent reminders out to families who have not yet donated to
the annual may Appeal. As you know, the May Appeal is the only major capital
improvement appeal, and without your support, it will be impossible to maintain
our beautiful buildings and grounds.
Our need is substantial, as we continue to do repairs to our buildings,
including Phase two & three of the school exterior masonry repairs, masonry
repairs to stone on the Lamarck side of the Church, and ongoing painting and
repairs to all buildings. We will be replacing an outdated Fire Alarm system in
the School building, continue maintenance on the heating system, and will
hopefully implement recommendations from a recent Energy Audit to reduce the
cost of our utilities.
As of Tuesday, June 16, our May Appeal pledges equal $72,158 from 561 of our
2,000 families. Please consider donating whatever you can to this important
appeal.
