MAKE YOU LENTEN SACRIFICE HELP THE ENVIRONMENT. In today’s reading, God made a covenant with Noah, his descendants and “every living creature.” God calls us to live in a right relationship with creation. FACT: 380 Billion plastic bags annually that are made from Millions of barrels of petroleum/oil. LENTEN PRACTICE: One way to live in right relationship with creation is to consider our everyday practices. One practice we can consider is what do we use when we shop? The simple action of using REUSABLE CLOTH BAGS for shopping helps the environment.

THE NOVENA OF GRACE is a 9-day prayer to St. Francis asking for a favor from God. It will be
prayed after the 8:00 a.m. weekday Mass beginning on Wednesday, March 4 through Thursday,

Church. The petition forms and Novena prayer can be found in front of the St. Francis statue on the left

Praying with the Stations, helps the faithful to make a spiritual pilgrimage of prayer by meditating on the Scenes of Christ’s suffering and death. From now until Palm Sunday, two of the fourteen Stations will be represented along with a brief explanation of each Station.
✝ THE THIRD STATION – JESUS FALLS: “The God who created the universe by His will alone becomes a man too weak to bear the weight of the cross. Please give me the strength to struggle after you. “

KNIT A PRAYER SHAWL THIS LENT
We have an active group, who knit / crochet prayer shawls for those who need God’s comforting and healing presence. There are people of all ages who have knit Prayer Shawls for our parish to distribute, but the honor of knitting the most prayer shawls goes to Verna Nalbach – the 93rd year old aunt of a parishioner, who is currently working on her 115th Prayer Shawl. We thank Verna for her dedication and for all of the time she has given to help others. We know this has been a work of love for her. If you are interested in joining us, we meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Church Library. The door opening onto the inside parking lot will be unlocked.

The Retreat Leader for this year’s Lenten Mini-Retreat is Fr. Richard Zajac, Chaplain at Sisters Hospital, and will be held on Saturday, March 14. The Mini-Retreat begins with 8:00 a.m. Mass, and is followed by refreshments and the presentation in the Chapel Meeting Room. All parishioners (men and women) are invited to the program. There is no pre-registration or admission fee.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
You are invited to pray the stations on the Fridays of Lent. The stations will be prayed in conjunction with Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Williamsville. This Friday, March 13, the stations will be prayed at Ss. Peter and Paul.
The Stations of the Cross on the walls of our Church refer to the Passion of Jesus. Praying with the Stations, helps the faithful to make a spiritual pilgrimage of prayer by meditating on the Scenes of Christ’s suffering and death. This week there is a brief explanation of the Fifth and Sixth Stations of the Cross:.
✝ THE FIFTH STATION – Simon helps Jesus carry His Cross: The guards pull Simon from the crowd and force him to carry the cross. How many times have I refused to help others?
✝ THE SIX STATION – Veronica wipes the face of Jesus: Veronica pushes past the guards to wipe your bloody face. Lord, live in me, act in me and love in me.

RESPONSE TO LOVE CENTER
This Lent, join fellow parishioners at the Response To Love Center to prepare, serve and enjoy lunch with their guests. Sister Johnice is in need of 10 volunteers from our parish to meet at the Center, 130 Kosciuszko St in Buffalo (14212) on Wednesday, March 11th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Call Allison at 839-5225 to join our carpool.

MEN’S PRAYER GROUP
The Men’s Prayer Group meets every Monday evening from 8:15-9:00 p.m. in the Upper Church. At this time of great sorrow for our nation, we are asking the men of our parish to unite in prayer. The rosary is recited along with other traditional prayers of the Church. Any man is welcome to attend at any time. Let us join together in spiritual defense of this land we love.

MAKE YOUR LENTEN SACRIFICE HELP THE ENVIRONMENT
In today’s Gospel, at one point the Apostles “no longer saw anyone but Jesus alone with them.” How do you see Jesus with you in the present world?
Fact: The petroleum in 14 plastic bags would drive a car one mile. What effect can this have on creation?
Lenten Practice: How can I transform the power I have as a first-world citizen for the common good? Using cloth bags may seem like a very small action, the reality is on average, a family used 4-6 grocery bags a week, which can add up to 300 bags a year. Think about it……

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
“There are some people who, in order not to pray, use as an excuse the fact that life is so hectic; that it prevents them from praying. This cannot be. … It is not necessary to always be meditating, nor to consciously experience the sensation that we are talking to God, no matter how nice this would be. What matters is being with him, living in him ... in his will. To love with a pure heart, to love everybody, especially to love the poor, is a 24 hour prayer.” – Mother Teresa of Calcutta

MAKE YOUR LENTEN SACRIFICE HELP THE ENVIRONMENT
In today’s gospel, we are reminded, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” God has given us a home, planet earth. How do we express our zeal for our planet?
Fact: Plastic bags account for 10% of the debris washed up on the U.S. coastline.
Lenten Practice: How does Lent challenge me to give up comfortable habits and develop new ways of being that are more attentive to the needs of the Earth and my neighbors? Forgetting cloth bags at home or in the care is so easy. Practice making sure that you take them into the store when you shop and use them.

✝ The Seventh Station – Jesus Falls Again. From this fall learn to persevere in doing good. Turn to God and He will give you courage
✝ The Eighth Station – Jesus Consoles the Women. Jesus comforts those that seek solace in Him. Lord, make me kind like you.
✝ The Ninth Station – The Third Fall. Completely drained of strength, Jesus collapses. Lord, never let me feel that any sin of mine is greater than your love.

KNIT A PRAYER SHAWL THIS LENT – We have an active group, who knit / crochet prayer shawls for those who need God’s comforting and healing presence. There are people of all ages who have knit Prayer Shawls for our parish to distribute. If you are interested in joining us, we meet weekly on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Church Library. The door opening onto the inside parking lot will be unlocked.

All of the food given is delivered to the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room located at Main and Bryant in downtown Buffalo. The Dining Room presently serves over 250 meals per day to people in need. WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR LENT THIS YEAR?

The 10th Annual Lenten Series will explore the life, the writings and the missionary journeys of St. Paul.  The lectures are held at various locations.  Why give up something for Lent when you can do something positive for your spiritual life?  No cost.  No reservations required.  Come and bring a friend:

Monday, March 23 – St. Paul’s Third Missionary Journey; Msgr. Fred Leising will explore the third missionary journey of St. Paul and his letters to the Corinthians and Romans at the third session of the Lenten Lecture Series, at 7:30 pm in St. Andrew’s Parish Hall, 1525 Sheridan Dr., Kenmore.

Monday, March 30 – St. Paul’s Fourth Missionary Journey; Fr. Charles Slisz will explore the fourth missionary journey of St. Paul and his letters to the Philippians at the last session of the Lenten Lecture Series, at 7:30 pm in St. John the Baptist Church , 1085 Englewood Ave., Kenmore.

You are invited to pray the stations on the Fridays of Lent.  The stations will be prayed in conjunction  with Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Williamsville.  This Friday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m. the stations will be prayed at Ss. Peter and Paul.

The Stations of the Cross on the walls of our Church refer to the Passion of Jesus.  Praying with the Stations, helps the faithful to make a spiritual pilgrimage of prayer by meditating on the Scenes of Christ’s suffering and death.  This week there is a brief explanation of the Tenth and Eleventh Stations of the Cross:

The Tenth Station – Jesus is Stripped of His clothing. Behold the poorest king that ever lived. Lord, I offer you all that I Possess.

The Eleventh Station – Jesus is crucified. Can you imagine what a crucifixion is? My God, I look to you and think: Is my soul worth this much?

MAKE YOUR LENTEN SACRIFICE HELP THE ENVIRONMENT

In today’s gospel, we are told, “But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.”  How do we live the truth of Jesus’ light?

Fact: It cost more to recycle a plastic bag than to produce a new one.

Lenten Practice: How does my faith help me overcome that which gets in the way of God’s action in my life?  Choosing to use reusable cloth bags for all your shopping needs can be a good example to show your family and others on the importance of caring for creation.

There will be no meeting on Wednesday, April 1.

Ü  Classes for Sunday, March 22: Grades 1-5 – 11:00-12:00 Noon

Ü  Classes for Monday, March 23: Grade 7 – 7:00-8:15 p.m.

VOCATION VIEW – Jesus told Nicodemus that when we find our calling in life we are reborn.  We really become a new person, fired with a new love, aimed in a new direction, with purpose and love.  Listen to Jesus’ voice within you.  If He is challenging you to a Church vocation, call Father Walter Szczesny at 847-5535.  You can also check out the “Priest of the Month” stories on our website – www.buffalovocaitons.org.

Help protect the rights of our Catholic health care professionals and institutions especially those at risk of being discriminated against because of their moral or religious objection to abortion. Please visit www.usccb.org/conscienceprotection to access links to make a comment and to find out more information. Your Catholic Voice is needed now. Comments must be posted by April 9.

You are invited to pray the stations on the Fridays of Lent. The stations will be prayed in conjunction with Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Williamsville. This Friday, April 3, the stations will be prayed at Christ the King Church.
✝ The Twelfth Station – Jesus Dies. Forgive them Father. This day you will be with me in paradise.
✝ The Thirteenth Station – Jesus is taken down. Jesus is place in His mother’s arms. Lord, help me to accept the partings that must come.
✝ The Fourteenth Station – Jesus is buried. My life’s work is done. My work within and through my church must now begin.

LENTEN REFLECTIONS – “Jesus and the Women at the Well” Sponsored by Rosary & Altar Society at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 29 in the Upper Church. MAKE YOUR LENTEN SACRIFICE HELP THE ENVIRONMENT
In today’s gospel, we are reminded, “Amen, amen I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”
Fact: Plastic bags photo-degrade, over time they break down into smaller, more toxic petro-polymers, which eventually contaminate soils and waterways.
Lenten Practice: What do I appreciate about the “garden” in which I have been placed? Becoming more aware of our need to use reusable cloth bags as often as possible will assist in less pollution of land and water.
