A PRAYER FOR MOTHERS

All-loving God, we give you thanks and praise
for mothers young and old.

We pray for young mothers, who give life and
count toes and tend to our every need;
May they be blessed with patience and tenderness
to care for their families and themselves with great joy.

We pray for our own mothers who have
nurtured and cared for us;
May they continue to guide in strong and gentle ways.

Remember mothers who are separated from their children
because of war, poverty, or conflict;
May they feel the loving embrace of our God
who wipes every tear away.

We pray for women who are not mothers but still love
and shape us with motherly care and compassion.

We remember mothers, grandmothers, godmothers and
great-grandmothers who are no longer with us
but who live forever in our memory
and nourish us with their love.

Amen

THE MAY APPEAL
TARGET WEEKEND – MAY 16 & 17

Dear Parishioners,
This past week I sent you a letter regarding the annual May Appeal.
This letter outlined the major projects that need to be done this year. We will continue to do repairs to our buildings, including Phase two & three of the school exterior masonry repairs, masonry repairs to stone on the Lamarck side of the Church, and ongoing painting and repairs to all buildings. We will be replacing an outdated Fire Alarm system in the School building, continue maintenance on the heating system, and will hopefully implement recommendations from a recent Energy Audit to reduce the cost of our utilities.
This is Christ the King’s only major capital improvement appeal and without your support, it will be impossible to maintain our beautiful buildings and grounds.
Gratefully,

Fr. John

THE MAY APPEAL
TARGET WEEKEND – MAY 16 & 17
Dear Parishioners,
A letter has recently been sent out regarding the annual May Appeal.
Gratefully,

Fr. John

CATHOLIC CHARITIES WEEKEND
Appeal 2009 has not yet met its $11 million goal. This is Catholic Charities Weekend and we ask for your support now if you have not yet had a chance to contribute. The work we do changes lives, and strengthens families, communities and WNY.
The goal this year is $11,000,000. As of Tuesday, May 12, $9,881,082 has been raised; and our parish has donated $231,868.58. Thank you for your generosity.
Your support of this year’s Appeal is vital. Please consider increasing your donation this year, by pledging a larger amount, and making payments in several installments. A gift of $100 is less than $2 per week. Try to join the Large Gift donor group by giving a minimum of $250. This is what helps make our parish go over the top every year. Let us show Msgr. Joe Sicari (Director of Catholic Charities, who assists at CTK) our support.
If you are employed by a firm that “matches gifts” to charitable institutions, secure a form from your personnel office and forward the completed form to Catholic Charities Appeal Office. Your contribution is used to bring strength and stability to the community. Please give generously.

100 DAYS OF “CHANGE”
Much has been reported in the media about advances and improvements made by our government in the last 100 days. Below is a list of changes, which require a Catholic response.
 Taxpayers in the US are now funding contraception and abortions worldwide through the UNPFA (United Nations Population Fund) who support China's forced abortion policy (Chinese women are only allowed one child per family).
 The "Morning After Pill", also known as the "Abortion Pill" is now available to any young woman 17 years or older over the counter without a prescription (or parental knowledge).
 Embryonic stem cell research, which requires the killing of a tiny human being, is now being funded by US tax payers. This, despite the fact that there have been NO successful trials in the private sector but MANY successes with ADULT stem cells.
 The current administration is moving toward rescinding the Conscience Clause which protects health care workers and facilities who oppose abortion from taking part in the procedure.
 New York State is moving rapidly toward a vote approving same-sex marriage, affording homosexual couples all the rights and advantages of heterosexual married couples.
 Hate Crimes legislation was passed which could, potentially, affect a Church's ability to speak against sinful behavior.
PLEASE act now to let your Catholic voice be heard. Join the Catholic Advocacy Network

THE MAY APPEAL
The May Appeal is the annual fundraiser used at Christ the King Parish to help maintain and improve our Parish properties.
As of Tuesday, May 26th, the May Appeal pledges total $50,878. This is Christ the King’s only major capital improvement appeal and without your support, it will be impossible to maintain our beautiful buildings and grounds.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES
THERE IS STILL TIME TO DONATE!
The Catholic Charities Appeal 2009 has not yet met its $11 million goal. As of Tuesday, May 26, $10,191,059 (92.6% of goal) has been raised; and our parish has donated $241,038.
Find out more at www.ccwny.org or call 856-4494. St. Martin de Porres, Pray for us!

MAY IS NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH … you can change a lifetime! All children deserve a safe, happy life – including the 496,000 American children and youth in foster care. Catholic Charities provides foster care for children of ages, racial and ethnic groups in Erie County who cannot safely live in their own homes. If you have room in your home and in your heart for a child in need, please contact 856-4494 or go to www.ccwny.org.

“POOR BOXES”
The CTK St. Vincent de Paul Conference is considering making an ongoing financial commitment to the operation of the downtown Dining room. It has only been through the historic generosity of our parishioners that we are able to even consider this. However, in order for us to move forward to making a commitment, we would need to see an increase in the donations on a weekly basis to the “poor boxes” that are located at the entrances to our church. It is your donations to the “poor boxes” that provide the funds the SVDP uses to assist the needy throughout the year. This increase would enable us to make an ongoing financial commitment to the operation of the downtown Dining Room. Our parish has always been very supportive of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and we thank you for your consideration in increasing support to the food basket collections as well as your financial contributions to the “poor boxes”.

Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need.
And bless us with peace. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Amen
