CARE FOR CREATION

As a UN Summit on Climate Change got underway on September 22 in New York, CIDSE (an international alliance of Catholic development agencies) and the Catholic organization, Caritas International (a delegation of Catholic bishops and climate experts), brought a message of urgency and “moral responsibility” for climate action to world leaders and asked them to “focus on the poorest people.” The statement also looks ahead to the December negotiations in Copenhagen. They said, “Copenhagen must achieve an equitable and binding outcome that reflects the urgency of the climate crisis and ensures effective mid-term as well as long-term actions.” The delegation’s complete statement can be read at www.caritas.org/includes/pdf/climatejusticestatement09.pdf.

The focus is on special liturgies and also participation in Life Chain.

Today, a group from our parish will gather in front of the Boulevard Mall at 2:00 p.m. for one hour. It is a very powerful witness to all those traveling down the Boulevard that we are a People of Life, from conception to natural death. Please join us in the parking lot by the large “B” at 1:45 p.m. to pick up signs.

TODAY - PET BLESSING

We welcome all who have experience the loss of a spouse, parent, child or other loved one. VOCATION VIEWS - If we really believe in something it does not seem to be a sacrifice to give up everything else to pursue that one dream. Jesus asks the same as any great leader … total dedication; but He promises rewards no one else can promise, “You will then have treasure in Heaven”. Come, follow the call of Christ as a priest, sister, brother, or deacon. If you think God is calling you to one of these, call Father Walter Szczesny at 847-5535. CTK Parish is very proud to have an active group of women & men, who knit / crochet prayer shawls for those who need to know of God’s comforting and healing pres-ence. The yarn may be dropped off at the Rectory. If you can knit and you’d like to come, the weekly group meets every Wednesday evening, in the Church Library from 7-9 pm. Questions? Call the Rectory at 839-1430. This ministry makes giving, feel so good!

WELCOME TO THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY OF CHRIST THE KING ...

Connor James Bacon, son of Kelly (Bakewell) and James Bacon; Catherine Mary Glodzik, daughter of Elizabeth (Walsh) and William Glodzik; and Venessa Rose LaBuda, daughter of Katrina (Kolhoff) and Joseph LaBuda; who were baptized in our Church last Sunday.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

Today Sunday, October 18, is the yearly collection to help the needs of the Church in the Developing World. In times of tragedy, natural disaster, war, and persecution, our mission family looks to the Church for help and hope. A gift of $25 would be a months support for a woman prepar-ing to serve as a Religious Sister; $60 is enough to provide a months education for a seminarian in a mission diocese; $100 helps buy Bibles and print 10,000 leaflets with a Chris-tian message; and $10 is a months support to provide bicycles for more than 40 full and part-time catechists in Mali.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY

Children's Liturgy will begin next Sunday, October 25 at the 10:00 a.m. Mass. As of now we will be able to offer this opportunity for the young children of our parish on two weekends a month. We are looking for volunteers to continue and hopefully expand this wonderful ministry. We work in teams and the time commitment is one Sunday a month. No experience is necessary, we will be glad to train anyone who is interested in helping. Call Debbi Testa at 310-7937 if you would like to join us.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated next Sunday, October 25, at the 12:15 p.m. Mass in the Lower Church by Rev. Msgr. David Slubecky, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia. All are invited to attend, however seating will be limited. There will also be a 12:15 p.m. Mass in the Upper Church.

PARISH SURVEY:

WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 31/NOVEMBER 1

To help guide our efforts to make CTK a better spiritual community, we are asking parishioners to fill out a parish survey and return it by Sunday, November 15. Collection boxes marked “SURVEY” will be in the back of the Church for the next few weeks. The survey will help us to understand how parish-ioners view themselves and the parish. It is especially important for us to hear from you because you represent both the present and the future of Christ the King parish.

We hope to take active and concrete measures to make CTK a stronger more wel-coming community. The information that you provide will make it possible for us to accom-plish these goals in a realistic & effective way. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

HONORING OUR VETERANS

Our Servicemen and women protect our country twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The bulletin board in the back of the Upper Church has a display which honors those men and women who are serving our country. All of us have been connected to someone (grandfather, father, mother, sister, brother, etc.) who has served his/her country.

A book will be placed in front of this bulletin board for anyone who would like to enter the name of a veteran (either living or deceased) to be prayed for on this special day. The book of names will be placed in the Adoration Chapel to be especially remembered in prayer throughout the 24-hours of the Christ the King Veteran’s Day Vigil. Please help us to honor our past and present veterans by participating in this 24-hours of prayer to be offered on November 11th, Veteran’s Day from 12:00 a.m. on November 11th to 11:59 p.m. November 11th. Please sign-up for an hour and participate. The sign-up sheets will be found at the Rectory, at the Veteran’s Bulletin Board and outside of the Adoration Chapel.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform and for us in our time of need. And bless us with peace. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Amen
