REMEMBERANCE OF 9/11

Jesus, beloved Savior,

In remembering the

terrible events of 9/11/01,

we recognize our great need

for Your guidance and protection.

We have painfully learned

that our country is vulnerable

and that violence can disrupt

both individuals and nations.

We pray then, for healing

for all the people whose lives

were shattered in the attacks.

We pray for those

who defend our freedom.

We pray for wisdom

for our national leaders.

We pray for peace,

for our country and our world.

Jesus, beloved Savior,

as we remember,

hold us in Your loving hands.

Amen.

“A PARTICULARLY CRUCIAL BATTLEGROUND in today’s cultural struggle between the supremacy of technology and human moral responsibility is the field of bioethics. In this most delicate and critical area, the fundamental question asserts itself force-fully: is man the product of his own labours or does he depend on God? We are presented with a clear either / or. Yet the rationality of a self-centered use of technology proves to be irrational because it implies a decisive rejection of meaning and value.”- Pope Benedict XVI. Charity in Truth (Caritas in Veritate), 75. June 29,2009

What is the Purpose of Respect Life Sunday?

The Church in the United States traditionally celebrates Respect Life Sunday the first Sunday of October each year - this year on October 4. The purpose is to bring our attention to and offer special prayers for all those whose lives are in some way compromised in our society. These special groups include the elderly, the chronically ill, those with restricted abilities, the imprisoned and, in a special way, the unborn. The focus is on special liturgies and also participation in Life Chain.

What is Life Chain?

Life Chain is a silent, prayerful gathering of people from all faiths on Niagara Falls Boulevard who hold signs offering the Truth about abortion, as well as signs offering hope and alternatives to abortion. Our parish gathers in front of the Boulevard Mall at 2:00 p.m. for one hour. It is a very powerful witness to all those traveling down the Boulevard that we are a People of Life, from conception to natural death. Please join us in the parking lot by the large “B” at 1:45 p.m. to pick up signs.

INQUIRY … a seeking or request for the truth, information or knowledge.

All are welcome to join the members of Christ the King faith formation team to discuss the Sunday Scriptures and the Catechism of the Catholic Faith. Our next two meetings are at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, Septem-ber 27 and Sunday, October 4, in the Church Library. For more information call Renée at 839-1430, ext 221 or rvilla@ctksnyder.com 4

THE EUCHARISTIC ADORATION CHAPEL Is located at the top of the stairs, when entering the Church at the archway between the Church and the School. These doors are open from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily. Contact Kathy at 839-9223, or Linda at 839-1889, with any questions.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP - Grief is a normal and natural response to the death of a loved one. Most of us are not prepared for the long journey through grief which is sometimes devastating, frightening and lonely. Saint Andrew’s Bereavement Team is sponsoring a Grief Support Group every Tuesday evening, from October 6 through November 17, at 6:45 p.m. in the Rectory. We welcome all who have experience the loss of a spouse, parent, child or other loved one. A support group is a safe haven where we can talk, cry, share our anger, guilt and fears with those who understand and care. For more information call Mary Lu at 876-2202 or Michelle at 725-6860.

THE PARISH ROSARY CHAIN is made up of a group of parishioners who pray a decade of the rosary daily for special requested intentions. If you have an intention for the Rosary Chain, or you would like to become part of the Rosary Chain Ministry, call Irene Wingerter at 632-0646. The Rosary Chain is ideal for those who wish to keep their intentions private.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS - Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform and for us in our time of need. And bless us with peace. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Amen.
