RESPECT LIFE
Did you know?
NYS law allows abortions to be performed up to the age of
"viability" legally defined as 24 weeks gestation. The proposed Reproductive
Health and Privacy Protection Act would leave fetal viability to be a judgment call of the
abortionist with no requirement of a second opinion. Furthermore, the bill would permit
abortions to be performed at any point in the pregnancy if the abortionist decides it is
necessary to protect the woman's health. If there is a possibility that the infant could
be born alive, existing law requires a second physician to present to care for the infant.
The RHAPP bill would allow the abortionist to forgo this precaution. Obviously, all of the
loopholes in this bill present a tremendous conflict of interest for the abortionist and
minimal or no protection for the mother and child. Be informed and inform others. Call
your state legislators and ask them to oppose this extreme abortion bill S55828 - The

"Look at the design of a woven basket. From the simplest basket to the most complex,
the ribs must be centered and held in balance. If the ribs are out of balance, the whole

GOD BLESS YOU
In the Oxford dictionary some of the ways the word "Bless" is defined is as
follows: to make or declare holy, to favor, endow, to keep or protect from harm.
As part of our Sunday celebration we come together as a People of God. This is what
distinguishes this gathering from other times that we gather together. We join together as
a community to worship the God who created us.
The acronym ACTS outlines the types of prayers that are offered. ACTS: Adoration,
Contrition, Supplication, and Thanksgiving. We acknowledge our humanity and offer
contrition, sorrow, as we recite the prayer that begins "I confess to almighty God
and to you my brothers and sisters, that I have sinned
" We present our needs to
God in an act of supplication during the prayers of the faithful. Eucharistic translates
to the word Thanksgiving. After we receive the Eucharist, we have the opportunity to sit
quietly, adore and reflect using any or all of these ACTS. We conclude our celebration
with a final blessing. It is a great comfort to remain to receive the final blessing at
the end of mass, a blessing that is meant to bring goodness and protection to us as we go
out into the world. A blessing that along wit the Eucharist can sustain us until we come
together as a faith community, a People of God.
May the Lord Bless you and keep you. May God let His face shine upon you and bring you
peace.
"MY DEAR FRIENDS, God's creation is one and is good. The concerns for
non-violence, sustainable development, justice and peace, and the care of our environment
are of vital importance to humanity." - Pope Benedict XVI, World Youth Day, July 17,
2008

PARISH OUTREACH
Health Care Proxy and Advance Health Care Planning
You have a say in the health care you receive by doing some planning and communicating
now. Advance health care planning permits peace of mind for you and your family by
reducing uncertainty and avoiding confusion and conflict over your care.
Basic Steps
1) Think about what's important to you and how you want to receive your health care.
2) Select a person to speak for you if you are unable to speak for yourself.
3) Talk about your health care wishes.
4) Put your choices in writing.
Complete the following thoughts - there is no right or wrong answer, just your own
perspective.
1) Describe in your own words what makes life meaningful and worth living to you.
2) What aspects of life are most important?
3) Who or what sustains you when you face serious decisions or challenges in your life?
4) How do you want to live your life?
Your answers and ideas may change as time or circumstances vary, discuss these ideas
with someone else - do they understand what is important to you? If you become unable to
speak for yourself or to make health care decisions, New York State law allows you to pick
someone to speak for you and make decisions on your behalf. In addition to having frequent
discussions with those who might be involved in future health care decision -making, put
your wishes in writing and review regularly. If you have questions or need help with
completing a Health Care Proxy contact Nancy Burns at the Rectory, 839-1430 or
Outreach@ctksnyder.com

in intelligence applied to our actions. It allows us to discern what constitutes the
common good in a given situation.
"In facing climate change, what we already know requires a response; it cannot be
easily dismissed. Significant levels of scientific consensus - even in a situation with
less than full certainty, where the consequences of not acting are serious - justifies,
indeed can obligate, our taking actions intended to avert potential dangers. In other
words, if enough evidence indicates that the present course of action could jeopardize
humankind's well-being, prudence dictates taking mitigating or preventative action."
- US Catholic Bishops, June 2001

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the selfless acts
they perform for us in our time of need.
And bless us with peace.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and Savior. Amen.
DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER SERVING OUR COUNTRY
IN THE MILITARY, AT HOME OR OVERSEAS?
We will be glad to add their name to the bulletin board in the Vestibule of the Upper

display gives a visual reminder of the brave, dedicated men and women serving our country,
and reminds us to keep them in our personal prayers, as well as our prayers at Mass. Send
us a photograph (if available), and information including their name, rank, arm of
military and assignment - whether overseas or at home. This will be an on-going display,
so please continue to send in the names and pictures. Our thanks to the Respect Life
Committee for designing the display.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
We have been blessed at Christ the King Church with a Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration
Chapel since June, 2000. The Adoration Chapel is located at the top of the stairs, when

5:00 pm on Saturday. Please consider becoming a scheduled adorer in our beautiful Chapel.
It is only by the dedication of volunteers that the Chapel remains open for all
parishioners 24/7. Each hour should have at least two prayer partners so that if one is
sick or on vacation the hour will still be covered. Listed below are the hours where we
need adorers. Won't you join in the unceasing prayer of the parishioners of Christ the
King parish? Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
"O God, you are my God; for you I long, for you my soul is thirsting; my body pines

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTS:
"Humanity today is rightly concerned about the ecological balance of tomorrow. It is
important for assessments in this regard to be carried out prudently, in dialogue with
people and experts of wisdom, uninhibited by ideological pressure to draw hasty
conclusions, and above all with the aim of reaching agreement on the needed or sustainable
development capable of ensuring the well-being of all while respecting environmental
balances." - Pope Benedict XVI, World Day of Peace, January 2008
Sustainable Development: Buying locally produced food helps eliminate wasteful
packaging and energy consumption used in transportation. The average American meal travels
1500 miles from farm to plate. Eating locally contributes to the local economy and helps
our conserve farmland.
