Confirmation

Choosing a Confirmation Sponsor

Each student must choose a sponsor by November 10th.  Requirements for choosing a sponsor are:

  1. The sponsor must have been confirmed.
  2. The sponsor needs to be a practicing Catholic and can receive a letter of recommendation from his/her parish.
  3. The candidate can choose a sponsor that is either male or female.
  4. The candidate can choose his/her godparent from Baptism.

The only person who cannot be a sponsor is the parent. A parent can fill in for the sponsor if a sponsor cannot attend a function.

Service Projects

Each student in the Confirmation program will be required to do Service Projects.  There are two areas of service.  They are Personal and Community.   When the students have completed each area of service, a written report will be due.  They will receive the report sheet from their teacher or Mrs. Page.  Most of these reports will be written in class.

  1. Personal Service (10 hours) – Students in Grade 9 will have until their class in April 2012, to complete their personal service.  Volunteering in the Religious Education Program must fill THREE of these hours.  Your service is needed during Sunday morning sessions and/or Saturday morning mini-retreats.
  2. Community Service – Grade 9 (Students MUST earn the money for the first 3 projects.)
    1. $5.00 donation is due at the November meeting. $5.00 donation for Catholic Charities is due at the March meeting.
    2. A product (Donation) that will be assigned at the October class, due at the November meeting.
    3. Students will be going to St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room/Soup Kitchen with their class.  Parents may be contacted to help drive the students.  They will be going on either a Saturday or a Sunday; some classes will be going during Christmas vacation.  The Faith Formation Department and the teachers will let you know the month and day your class will be going.

These are the requirements to be eligible to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation

  1. Attendance – the only reason you should miss a class is because you are ill or there has been a death in the family.
  2. Homework – all homework assignments must be completed for class.
  3. Service Projects – Personal, Community  (done in 9th grade).
  4. Mass – weekly attendance at Mass. Each week you need to sign a Confirmation “attendance book” that is located on the first floor between the Church Library and the Ushers’ Room. If you do not attend Mass at Christ the King you will need to bring a bulletin from the Church that you attend on that weekend. If you are sick you need to call the Religious Education Office at 839-0946 ext. #306 to let me know so I can mark your name off for illness.
  5. Retreat – Grade 9-  Every student must attend.  This takes place when all instructional classes have been completed.  It takes place in the spring. (May)
  6. Rehearsal – Confirmation rehearsal takes place prior to the reception of the sacrament.  Candidates and sponsors must attend.  If a sponsor cannot be present then a parent or older sibling may fill in for the sponsor.
  7. All information that is needed for the church record must be handed in.  Information from the Faith Formation Department will give the candidate the deadline dates.  The following information will be needed:
    1. Confirmation Name
    2. Baptismal Certificate
    3. Letter of Recommendation from sponsor’s parish (that includes Christ the King parish).
