We are using the Sadlier “We Believe” Program to prepare your children for the reception of First Reconciliation. Both Sacramental Programs have been developed to make the first reception of the sacrament a special event for the whole parish. It involves the parish in praying for the children and their families.
The Sacrament of Penance/Reconciliation celebrates our continuing conversion, our turning from selfishness and sin to love and generosity in order to fully embrace God’s love and forgiveness. This sacrament is meant to help us to heal what is broken and to set free that which is bound up. This sacrament is not only for the times we commit serious, or mortal, sin. Whenever we confess our venial sins, we are strengthened and grow in God’s grace. This is why young children, most likely incapable of serious sin at this point in their lives, are called to the sacrament. It introduces them to a lifelong process of self-examination in which they are called to wholeness and maturity by responding to the love God has shown us in Jesus Christ.
We realize that children are eager to learn. That is why both programs offer children an exciting array of ways to learn through music, movement, stories and hands-on activities, to name some.
