truly hidden." - C.S. Lewis
ARE YOU A SCHOOL TEACHER OFF FOR THE SUMMER? Do you have some time to offer to
Perpetual Adoration during the summer? If so please read the next announcement.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"We tend to think of prayer as a religious obligation. To Jesus, prayer was a
necessity, like eating and drinking. It didn't bring him material goods, it didn't spare
Him from heartache and suffering. Not one time did he ask the Father to give Him anything.
Jesus regarded prayer as a necessity that should be practiced continuously and
persistently." - Alaska Radio Mission, September 2003
There is always a need for Adorers: We are looking for people to sign-up to adore weekly
at: 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. We are also
urgently looking for adorers at 4:00 pm on Saturday. If you can fill one of these time
periods, call Mary at 839-3386 or Linda at 839-1889. New Adorers are always welcome. Thank

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
Facts for the Fourth
On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress,
setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom as a sovereign nation. As always, this most
American of holidays will be marked by parades, fireworks and backyard barbecues across
the country. In July 1776, the estimated number of people living in the newly independent
nation was 2.5 million. Today, the nation's population on this July Fourth is 304 million.
Patriotic-Sounding Names
Ü There are 31 places nationwide with "liberty" in their name. The most
populous one as of July 1, 2006, is Liberty, Mo. (29,581). Iowa, with four, has more of
these places than any other state: Libertyville, New Liberty, North Liberty and West
Liberty.
Ü Thirty-one places are named "eagle" - after the majestic bird that serves as
our national symbol. (Places include cities, towns, villages and census-designated
places.) The most populous such place is Eagle Pass, Texas, with 26,401 residents.
Ü Twelve places have "independence" in their name. The most populous of these
is Independence, Mo., with 109,400 residents.
Ü Nine places adopted the name "freedom." Freedom, Calif., with 6,000
residents, has the largest population among these.
Ü There is one place named "patriot" - Patriot, Ind., with a population of 192.
Ü And what could be more fitting than spending the Fourth of July in a place called
"America"? There are five such places in the country, with the most populous
being American Fork, Utah, population 25,596.
DO YOU HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER SERVING OUR COUNTRY
IN THE MILITARY, AT HOME OR OVERSEAS?
We will be glad to add their name to the bulletin board in the Vestibule of the Upper
Church, which has been dedicated to honor those who are in all arms of the military. This
display gives a visual reminder of the brave, dedicated men and women serving our country,
and reminds us to keep them in our personal prayers, as well as our prayers at Mass. Send
us a photograph (if available), and information including their name, rank, arm of
military and assignment - whether overseas or at home. This will be an on-going display,
so please continue to send in the names and pictures. Our thanks to the Respect Life
Committee for designing the display.
PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS
Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us.
Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of

DID YOU KNOW
Pope Benedict XVI
"leans GREEN!
Yes. Our Pope has made the Vatican carbon neutral. Changes made in energy sources at
the Vatican neutralized the effect of greenhouse gas emissions produced there; they no
longer contribute to the dangers of global warming.
It's True. The Vatican has declared pollution as one of the modern day sins. - Vatican,
March 2008
"Care for the Earth is not just an Earth Day slogan, it is a requirement of our
faith. We are called to protect people and the planet
This environmental challenge
has fundamental moral and ethical dimensions that cannot be ignored." - US Catholic
Bishops
"Modern society will find no solution to the ecological problem unless it takes a
serious look at its lifestyle. In many parts of the world, society is given to instant
gratification and consumerism while remaining indifferent to the damage, which these
attitudes cause. Simplicity, moderation, and discipline, as well as a spirit of sacrifice,
must become part of everyday life, lest all suffer the negative consequences of the
careless habits of a few." - Pope John Paul II, Call for Ecological Conversion,
January 18, 2001
Ü Let's better understand the stance taken by Catholic leaders regarding today's
environmental challenges
Ü Let's share ways in which each one of us can make a difference.
The Social Justice Ministry at Christ the King is taking steps to better care for God's
Creation. Each week we'll submit a tip or interesting environmental fact in the bulletin.
