CHRIST THE KING PARISH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM
Each year, people throughout the world make New Year's resolutions. For many they are
short lived, and quickly forgotten. At our Baptism and Confirmation, we made New Life
resolutions. Our Baptismal promises are lifelong commitments to Jesus and the Church.
We recognize that all that we possess comes from God. We are God's stewards - we have been
empowered to manage the abundant gifts that we have received.
As "good stewards" it is our responsibility to give back a portion of the time,
talent and treasure we receive from our generous and loving God. Let us recommit ourselves
to the Lord by taking the time to plan and make stewardship of time and talent part of our
lifestyle and stewardship of treasure part of our budget.
"Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not
grudgingly, for God loves a cheerful giver." - 2Cor. 9:7

donations to the 'poor boxes' at the entrances of the Church, you have enabled direct care
to those in need in our community. This past summer, your generous donations to the 'poor
boxes' have: sent children to the St. Vincent de Paul summer camp in Angola, NY; directly
assisted dozens of needy families with the purchase of household goods including
furniture, appliances, clothing, bedding, linens; and enabled us to increase the
utilization of our food pantry services. These are just some of the ways in which you
answer the question; "what would Jesus do?". On behalf of all those that you

GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE NOTES
"The seriousness of the ecological issue lays bare the depth of the human moral
crisis. If an appreciation of the human person and of human life is lacking, we will also
lose interest in others and in the earth itself
"AN EDUCATION IN ECOLOGICAL RESPONSIBILITY is urgent: responsibility for oneself, for
others and for the earth. This education cannot be rooted in mere sentiment or empty
wishes
"Churches and religious bodies, non-governmental and governmental organizations,
indeed all members of society, have a precise role to play in such education." - Pope
John Paul II, World Day of Peace, January 1, 1990
FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP AND THE CATHOLIC VOTE
As the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops states in their document,
"Faithful Citizenship", "...it is so important to vote according to a
well-formed conscience that perceives the proper relationship among moral goods. A
Catholic cannot vote for a candidate who takes a position in favor of an intrinsic evil,
such as abortion or racism, if the voter's intent is to support that position. In such
cases a Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in grave evil." (#35) and
"In making these decisions, it is essential for Catholics to be guided by a
well-formed conscience that recognizes that all issues do not carry the same moral weight
and that the moral obligation to oppose intrinsically evil acts has a special claim on our
consciences and our actions." (#37)
FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP FOR CATHOLIC VOTERS
On Thursday, October 30, at 7:00 pm, St. Gregory's will present a program on
"Faithful Citizenship for Catholic Voters. The presenter will be Msgr. Robert Zapfel,
pastor of St. Leo's and a noted Moral Theologian.
